COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTEERING OFFICER

Job Purpose: To lead on involvement in public greenspaces with residents, community and
organisations, and to recruit a team of volunteers to deliver improvements in pilot parks. You will
engage two pilot parks per year, including the sustainable activation of spaces involving the anchor
organisations, social enterprises, private businesses, key players, resident groups and others
involved. You will use participatory processes to run sessions asking people how to improve their
experiences and use of local greenspace. You will be involved in a small grants programme for
greenspace improvements. You will recruit a team of volunteers using audience segmentation tools
& targeted online and offline recruitment methods to deliver park improvements.

Terms:
Salary: £24,000 FTE equivalent
Hours: 25 hours a week (flexible days)
Term: 3 year FTC with the ambition to extend
Reporting to: Love Leeds Parks CEO
Direct reports: sessional worker and volunteers as required
Budgetary controls: small working project budgets.

Key responsibilities:

To quickly build strong trusted relationships with key players around our pilot parks,
including community anchor organisations, community and residents’ groups, private
businesses and any other ‘key players’

To recruit volunteers to undertake park improvement projects via Better Impact
volunteering app (or similar), scheduling drop in as well as formal volunteering sessions for
different audiences

To work closely with Leeds City Council’s Parks & Countryside Rangers to deliver projects on
key greenspace sites in Leeds

To produce short reports for LLP Trustees’ board meetings on successes and barriers

To be comfortable using social media and other online technologies for involving people in
the design & use of public greenspaces

Knowledge/Skills:
– Knowledge of community participation and community organisations, of how to collaborate with a range of stakeholders
– Knowledge of greenspace engagement activities and undertaking physical improvements
– Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, audience segmentation, and ways of reaching different audiences especially in ‘hard to reach’ areas
– Good people skills, building strong trusted relationships with LCC Parks & Countryside staff, Councillors, and community organisations
– Good knowledge of safeguarding, and the legislative framework of working with different communities having a clear focus on customer service.

Experience:
– Experience of working with volunteers in a creative, positive way with a range of people and organisations, running creative engaging events
– Experience of project management, collecting data for evidencing impact and being organised
– A proven track record in making things happen by working with people, building confidence
in communities to act and take the lead
– Experience of technology and social media, and the willingness to use both to tell
communities’stories of improving places.

Job Requirements: Must be able to travel across Leeds using public or other forms of transport
where they are viable, or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to own car.
Some out-of-hours and weekend working will be required.

home working.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Job Purpose: To provide the first point of contact for the charity, heavily involved in the development & delivery of processes in line with our three workstreams: Consultation, Activation & Enterprise. Together with our Marcomms Trustee lead, you will write and deliver the Marcomms strategy for Love Leeds Parks, focussing on raising the profile of the charity and nature engagement for the general public. You will write press releases and handle media enquiries, being as confident talking to local communities as with journalists/ press. You will assist the CEO in fundraising comms, including crowdfunding, events and communicating with grant recipients in an efficient and effective way. You will support the team with some admin, purchase orders and other necessities.

Key Responsibilities:

To manage the MarComms elements of the charity, from design to implementation with
support from Trustees

To manage day to day comms – putting in place Mailchimp, Hootsuite (or similar) and
responding to emails and coordinating stories with the LLP team

To build pen-portraits of our audiences with Trustees, in order to direct channels and
outputs towards the greatest impact

Use an audience-led approach to comms and events, and a programming mindset to
planning events & activities

To lead on Nature Engagement Comms for the charity, helping people feel closer to nature
by focussing on noticing nature and experiencing nature in their daily lives:

To write good copy, with images, video and infographics focussed on getting media coverage
and support for our activities

To work in partnership with communities, amplifying their stories and helping them feel
involved with the ‘Park on a Page’ elements of the Leeds Parks & Green Spaces Strategy

To work with crowdfunding and other digital tools to build public support for our pilot parks

To help Friends groups and community organisations write good copy, and help amplify their
stories

To design an annual package of comms support in line with our three workstreams:
Consultation, Activation & Enterprise.

Knowledge & Skills:
– Competent with writing press releases and digital copy and familiarity with various media
platforms. If these skills are not strong, an enthusiasm and desire to learn will be acceptable
– Strong written and verbal communications skills with an engaging style
– Know how to use social-media channels, and images for impact
– Some knowledge (although support will be offered) of audience segmentation, brand
awareness and tone of voice in communication styles
– You must be 100% ambitious, enthusiastic and motivated about bringing more greenspace
to more communities across Leeds.

Experience:
– Experience of working in an administration office environment
– Proof-reading, and writing in a simple ‘tone of voice’ for different audiences including ‘hard
to reach’ audiences
– Organising events and programme activities
– Working independently as you will be in a small team, planning and delivering projects
– Working knowledge of project management ways of working with multiple workstreams and
reporting structures
– Desirable to make small infographics, edit videos and photos for informal quick social-media
outputs.
