Ouzlewell Green in Bloom Supported to Maintain Community Orchard

A Love Leeds Parks grant enabled Ouzlewell Green in Bloom to purchase equipment with which to maintain their community orchard. The equipment will be used for tree pruning, path clearing and hedge laying.

A representative of the group said “the grant has been an enabler to improve the local environment, but more than that, it has provided a focus for the community. Within Ouzelwell Green we do not have a church, shop, post office, school or pub. There is no centre to the village. This offers an opportunity to offer a virtual centre to the village.”

Last autumn they held juicing days for the community, where families gathered fruit from the orchard and helped to press it into juice.

Ouzlewell Green in Bloom planted bulbs on the village green and carried out litter and picking. They plan to utilise remaining funds to purchase additional flowers and bushes.
