Our Highlights of 2020
Though 2020 was a difficult year for all, we are grateful that Love Leeds Parks was able to carry out adapted versions of many of our activities. Here is a snapshot of what we got up to:
- Throughout the year we have had the pleasure of receiving updates on the projects which received grant funding in January 2020, which are now being completed. The projects include the construction of ponds and shelters, enhancements to woodlands and work done to combat erosion in Leeds parks. More details about the completed projects can be found on our news page. Due to the impact of COVID-19 some of our projects have been delayed, and we will update you on those as they are finished.
- We launched our Give a Little Back campaign in response to the first lockdown, during which we all benefitted hugely from our local parks and green spaces. They continue to be lifelines during continued restrictions. The campaign continues, if you are interested in donating you can do so on our Virgin Money Giving page. Funds raised will be distributed to projects which enhance public green spaces in Leeds.
- In August we ran the Love Leeds Parks Festival online and in parks. Our online content, developed in response to continuing restrictions, included a filmed guided walk and minibeast hunt. We had socially distanced chats with over 300 people in parks, and made a further 2,000 engagements online. On account of its success in 2020, we hope to make the festival an annual event.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past year, be that online or at an event. Your help to enhance public green spaces and spread the word about the amazing parks we have in Leeds is so appreciated.
