Let the good times roll: LS-TEN brings rollerskating to Hunslet Moor Park

“The children and young people involved feel there is little on offer for them on weekends. For them, rollerskating has become a new favourite sport.”

This Summer, the Sunday Roll project by LS-TEN turned weekends into something to look forward to at Hunslet Moor Park! The free roller-skating sessions welcomed children, young people, and families to try something completely new, introducing many to the joy of roller sports for the very first time.

By removing financial barriers, LS-TEN made it possible for everyone to join in, creating a safe, inclusive, and exciting space for local residents to be active together. The sessions quickly became a community favourite, with smiles, laughter, and a few wobbly first steps filling the park every weekend.

Parents loved the opportunity for free outdoor family time, while young people discovered a brand-new hobby that kept them engaged and active. The project also helped LS-TEN strengthen relationships within the local community and gather valuable feedback to shape future activities.

With glowing feedback and growing enthusiasm, Sunday Roll showed that a simple idea – free skating in the park – can roll out big benefits for families, wellbeing, and community connection.

This activity was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and with thanks to National Lottery Players. This activity was also generously supported by the Mayor of West Yorkshire’s Safer Communities Fund.
