Leeds Partnership Parks: The Halfway Point!

We’ve reached the halfway point in our Leeds Partnership Parks project, with thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players. Let’s review:

In January 2023, we were lucky enough to receive a grant of just under a quarter of a million pounds from the National Lottery Heritage Fund!

The project promised to focus on six inner-city parks across Leeds to find out their communities’ views on their local green space. We wanted to find out what residents and visitors wanted to see more of in their parks and provide funding to make those events happen.

Our trustee board found our first ever CEO, who in turn brought in our Community Officer, and Communications Officer to bring the project to life. The team brought a fresh vision and we’re delighted with how it’s resonated with local people.

Chloe Sykes, Love Leeds Parks CEO

Since then, we’ve sparked conversations in four parks: Burley Park, Harehills Park, The Rein Park & Wortley Recreation Ground. We’ve spoken to…

over 800 residents

We’ve pledged over £24,280 in grants across our Community Park Activity Grants programme and We Love Leeds Parks Fund.

16 events are already in progress and range from yoga in the park to community planting days to picnics for refugees!

We’ve had some magnificent feedback too:

This is awesome, I can’t believe we get to play and take a play dough, snacks, and bracelet home. This is the best day ever!

Child, Family Fun Day

I’ve come across Hello Hip Hop workshops and made the journey all the way from Kirkstall with my family. And I must say, this is incredible!

Parent, Spot Park Jam

I am glad this is on today as I had nowhere to take my children this weekend. It is nice to have this for free.

What’s next for the Leeds Partnership Parks project?

Right now, we’re starting conversations in our next two parks: Hunslet Moor and Stanningley! We’re excited to be speaking to more local people about their vision for the future of these inner-city parks and empowering volunteers to realise their ideas.

We’ll be running another round of Community Park Activity Grants across these two parks and continuing our work with partners across Leeds. In the next 18 months, we’ll be supporting even more activities and improvements throughout the city, so watch this space!
