Friends of Wortley Rec welcome residents to their local park with celebration day.

Friends of Wortley Rec is a community-led volunteer group committed to improving the green space in and around New Wortley Recreation Ground.

In Summer 2024, Friends of Wortley Rec involved the local community in planting over 500 spring bulbs, in support of both the park’s biodiversity and residents’ enjoyment of the park. This collective effort was rewarded with a community celebration with outdoor games, craft activities for families, a performance by Leeds Peoples Choir, and an outdoor ceilidh open to all. More than seventy residents attended, enjoying the relaxed and friendly event atmosphere.

Following the success of the Summer event, the Friend Group organised a Winter planting day, at which residents planted eight new blossom trees, followed by wreath making and apple juicing in the nearby church.
