Education Sessions for School Pupils Delivered by TCV
The Conservation Volunteers utilised Love Leeds Parks grant funding to deliver 10 outdoor learning days at their Skelton Grange site for school groups from disadvantaged areas of Leeds.
The sessions benefitted over 250 children, and provided outdoor education at a time of year when few similar activities are available.
The sessions were designed to take place during the winter months; initial sessions were carried out in February and March, with the final two being delivered in October. The success of the sessions, attended by a number of local schools, proved that it is possible to run great outdoor activities during the winter.
11 fantastic volunteers supported the outdoor learning days, enabling them to gain confidence and new skills which will assist them in obtaining paid work.
The children completed feedback forms at the end of the sessions, in which they were asked, “Can you think of any words to describe your day?” The word cloud below illustrates their responses.
