Champions Community Sport & Health CIC brought Easter excitement to Hunslet Moor Park this April, welcoming an incredible 146 young people and their family members for a free day of sport, food, and fun. Supported by our Community Park Activity Grants programme, the team transformed the park into a lively holiday hub, and the community responded in full force.
The Champions Easter Event was designed to support local families in getting active for free during what can be an expensive school break. The team swapped their usual assault course for a climbing wall, which proved to be a hit amongst the younger attendees. Free food was also greatly appreciated, especially with the absence of free school meals over the holidays. Families gathered to eat, chat, and enjoy the sunshine, creating a welcoming atmosphere that stretched far beyond the activities themselves.
Twelve volunteers helped to make the day run smoothly, from supporting activities to chatting with families. Their efforts helped create a safe, friendly space where young people could try new things, meet new people, and build confidence. One parent shared this heartfelt message afterwards:
“You have truly built up my son’s confidence over Easter… he has grown so much and believes in himself.”
Champions said the Community Park Activity Grants make “a HUGE difference”, allowing them to provide young people with a chance to feel part of something positive. Since being supported by the grants programme in 2025 their database has grown by an incredible 27%, allowing them to engage more and more young people in the local area through new events.
This activity was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and with thanks to National Lottery Players. This activity was also generously supported by the Liz & Terry Bramall Foundation.
