Crafts, games, and winter cheer at Stanningley Park Bowling Club

Stanningley Park Bowling Club kept spirits high this winter with a cosy programme of community activities, bringing neighbours together for games, crafts, and conversation. Supported by our community grants programme, the club welcomed around sixty residents across a series of sessions, all designed to offer a warm space, a shared interest, and a reason to get together in the park in the colder months.

Volunteers put on a wide range of activities for all ages. Games nights proved popular, with shuffleboard, darts, and dominos bringing out plenty of friendly competition. The gardening club offered a quieter moment for those looking forward to spring, while the craft club offered residents the opportunity to create, chat, and unwind.

Some participants came to more than one activity, finding the club a welcoming place to return to. Others have already been asking when the next activity days will begin, showing just how valued the sessions became.

With ten volunteers giving their team to run the programme, it was a real team effort. The grant allowed the club to purchase equipment that will last for years, giving them the confidence to run more social activities each winter without worrying about costs. It’s helped the club reach a wider mix of people, not just bowlers but residents looking for community, company, and a reason to step out and enjoy the park, even on the chilliest of days.

“It was fabulous to have a warm space for people… to get together to socialise and share interests.”

This activity was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and with thanks to National Lottery Players. This activity was also generously supported by the Liz & Terry Bramall Foundation.
