Connecting Hunslet, one step at a time with Involve Leeds.

“Walking is good for my mental health.”

This Summer, Guided Walks with Involve Leeds turned simple strolls into powerful moments of connection and confidence. Regular centre users, including some who sleep rough in Hunslet Moor Park, were invited to take part in guided walks designed to help them see the park in a new light, explore different routes, and learn about what’s available in their community.

For some, visiting a new place or meeting new people can be daunting, but walking together in a supportive group made all the difference. Volunteer walk leaders encouraged participants to try new routes and gradually build confidence with every step.

Thanks to this grant, Involve Leeds built stronger links with the Friends of Hunslet Moor, creating shared walking maps, swapping plants, and inspiring joint gardening projects. What started as a few walks has grown into a lasting partnership, helping people feel more connected, more confident, and more at home in their local park.

I didn’t know this park was here – it’s nice.”
