Community-led action blooms at Burley Park

Friends of Burley Park brought neighbours together this winter for a community bulb-planting day, with around twenty people supporting the group to plant an impressive 3,000 bulbs. Families especially enjoyed the chance to part in a one-off activity, and the event helped introduce new people to the group’s regular volunteering sessions.

Throughout the year, volunteers have continued to care for the park, attending regular Weekday Weeders and monthly Sunday sessions to ensure the community’s planting efforts survived the summer drought. These ongoing efforts are helping the park feel more loved and looked-after, especially at a time when resources are tight.

Our community activity grant funding made a real difference: new tools supported volunteers who don’t have gardens at home, compost had helped maintain ornamental areas, and repaired benches are once again being well used. Insurance support also enabled the group to safely run larger events for the community.

Together, volunteers and neighbours have added colour, care, and community spirit to Burley Park, showing how small actions can grow into something bigger.

This activity was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and with thanks to National Lottery Players. This activity was also generously supported by the Liz & Terry Bramall Foundation.
